& G.P.S. coordinates to Ridge Crossing
A couple of weeks back we sat down to discuss
having rifle matches
at Ridge Crossing. Since the range was started back in 2005, the
question about
rifles has come up repeatedly. It’s an option we’ve tossed around before
and
it’s always been on the back burner for the future. We also realize lots
of
shooters have rifles and shotguns and do not get to shoot them nearly
enough.
We think we have come up with what will be a solution.
After the State
Match we propose to add rifle matches and hold them after the
pistol
matches. We don’t know if there will be a rifle match after every pistol
match
– the rifles may be once a month. It depends on the turnout, the amount
of time
the matches take, the SO staff – there are a lot of factors to consider.
This
past year we’ve been shooting twice a month and there are only so many
weekends
for events.
There will be a time change. The pistol matches
will sign in
at 9:00 and shooting will start at 9:30. The pistol matches should be
over by
1:30 maybe 2:00, at that point there will be a short break to eat a
sandwich
and get signed in for the rifle matches. We think depending on the
response the
rifle matches should last 2 to 2 ½ hours. This is going to be a work in
progress and we will all figure it out along the way.
Be sure to bring plenty of water and you might want
to bring
a sack lunch if you plan to shoot both matches. Bring your lawn chairs!
For now to keep it simple we’ll have iron sights
and optics
– they will be scored separately. We’ll have pistol calibers and rifle
calibers. For economic reasons we feel that rimfire should be included,
but if
you want to shoot something in a larger caliber please do. The whole
point is
we all want to shoot and have fun on the range.
We will use the same stage setup the pistol match
shot
earlier that morning. Any steel used in the pistol match will not be
included
in the rifle match and we will adjust the rounds.
Give us your input, comments, questions,
suggestions please!
